Alcohol & Drug Council of Tompkins County

The Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County is here to celebrate recovery from addiction and to assist individuals and families in their efforts to reduce the negative impact of alcohol and drug abuse on their lives.  The agency was created in 1965 by community leaders who were concerned about the abuse of alcohol in Tompkins County. At that time, the organization provided informal counseling to individuals and families affected by alcoholism. In 1982, they acquired a license from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services to offer professional counseling for problems related to alcohol and drug abuse.

Substance abuse prevention efforts are mainly directed toward middle and high school students through the Peer Program. They offer other alcohol and substance abuse prevention services to businesses, colleges, youth detention facilities, human service organizations and the criminal justice system.
