Many downtown Ithaca and Tompkins County restaurants set to showcase multiple $5 samplers & sips

ITHACA, NY JUNE 14, 2019 —  Returning to Ithaca for the fifth year, Bite of Ithaca presented by Maguire Jeep, Fiat, Ram, Chrysler is sure to impress foodies with its tasty offerings at over 20 restaurants around town.

From June 17 through June 22, guests can take their taste buds on a culinary journey by enjoying $5 tapas-sized food bites (and $5 sips) at restaurants around Ithaca and its neighboring communities in Tompkins County. More than 20 participating restaurants will offer tasty $5 bites in addition to their regular menu. Grab your friends, locate a Bite passport at any of the participating restaurants, or download one online at biteofithaca.com and start restaurant hopping!

The Bite passport will provide information about the different Bite cuisine and you can use it to collect stamps from the restaurants you visit. When you return your stamped passport to any one of the participating restaurants, or to the Downtown Ithaca Visitor Center–now located inside the Tompkins County Center for History and Culture, or to the East Shore Ithaca Visitor Center, 904 East Shore Drive, near Stewart Park, you will be entered to win a $150 gift certificate to the participating Bite restaurant of your choice. Bite organizers the Downtown Ithaca Alliance will draw one lucky winner around the middle of July. Additional raffle entry details are available at Biteofithaca.com.

Some of the Bites guests can look forward to:

The highly skilled chefs at Monks on The Commons, known for its soulful food and sinful cocktails, are preparing a mini feast of Bite options including beef bulgogi dumplings and pesto spice fries. Wash these items down with a special Bite cocktail, Tasseographist, made with cava, gunpowder green tea, pear-rooibos, and orange bitters.

Just down the street from Monks, Kilpatrick’s Publick House, an upscale Irish pub featuring Irish-inspired and American cuisine, will offer Kilpoopers (fried Reuben balls) a special item only available for Bite of Ithaca. Kilpatrick’s will also offer savory corned beef sliders and a sweet Bailey’s cheesecake shooter.

Foodies looking for worldly eats will want to check out the Mediterranean-inspired bites atThe Commons Kitchen and the Asian-influenced samplers at Sushi Osaka.

When you’re ready for a truly sweet treat, Bite has two new participants — Sweet Melissa’s Ice Cream located in Press Bay Alley and Rashida Sawyer Bakery — ready to please your palate with some sweetened items.

Sweet Melissa’s will be serving a variety of homemade milkshakes including adventurous flavors like matcha Oreo, orange chocolate, eggnog, and Svante’s Inferno — named after City of Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick — a chocolate and cayenne milkshake in a caramel drizzled cup, while Rashida will be offering cheesecake, carrot cake, pound cake, chocolate cake, and white Cake with some very special frosting, all made from scratch using family recipes from local legend Loraine Rashida Sawyer. The bakery will have a popup set up in the Hilton Garden in during Bite.

Just outside of the city of Ithaca limits, Atlas Bowl in Trumansburg will be part of Bite once again, serving its popular totchos, (herbed tater tots, bacon, cheddar cheese, green onions, jalapenos, sour cream), a classic chocolate mousse with salted caramel, and whipped cream and then enjoy a refreshing margarita made with reposado tequila, orange triplum and fresh lime.

Bite of Ithaca participants sample foods at Simeons.

“We’re very fortunate to have such an incredible and diverse dining scene in Tompkins County. We are thrilled to welcome Rashida Sawyer Bakery, The Commons Kitchen, Sushi Osaka and the other newcomers on board for this extraordinary culinary exhibition, and we expect they and all of the other participating restaurants will be working hard to create delicious bites that will impress attendees,” says Allison Graffin, marketing director for the Downtown Ithaca Alliance.
