SUMMARY:Beyond Dreamers: Transitions to Adulthood in an Uncertain Age
DESCRIPTION:Join Sofya Aptekar and Shannon Gleeson for a conversation on Beyond Dreamers: Transitions to Adulthood in an Uncertain Age. Beyond Dreamers deftly underscores how deeply legal uncertainty continues to structure the lives of undocumented young adults. \nDrawing on more than one hundred interviews with a racially and ethnically diverse group of undocumented college students in New York City\, with and without DACA authorization\, Aptekar and Hsin show that there is no single undocumented experience. They find that while legal status matters enormously\, its impacts are influenced by race\, national origin\, gender\, class\, sexuality\, family resources\, educational institutions\, neighborhood contexts\, and access to local and transnational co-ethnic communities and labor markets. These forces not only shape the kinds of opportunities available to undocumented young adults\, but how they choose to approach disclosing their undocumented status and interact with family\, peers\, employers\, professors\, and police.

SUMMARY:The Craft Book Club for Writers
DESCRIPTION:The Craft Book Club is a reading group that will focus on critical thinking and discussion around the writer’s craft. Where do they write? What methodologies do they use to support their writing process? How is form and language playing a role? If you were teaching this book to a classroom? What pedagogies would you apply to help your students think deeper into the subject and content? \nThis book club will examine the fiction writing of currently living queer writers. The first group will meet every other Wednesday for a month beginning on October 28th\, 2026. There will be hot tea\, water\, and some light snacks provided. This group is free but donations are encouraged to help the sustainability of the community space. While there is no assigned host? georgia Van Gunten will be there to moderate and encourage an open and respectful discussion. This will be a recurring group so future book recommendations are welcome. \nA zoom interview with the author\, Lee Mandelo\, will take place during the November 18th meeting. \n All are welcome.
