SUMMARY:"The Architecture of the Self": A Summer Somatic Series
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\nTeaching Ithaca Wellness Launches “The Architecture of the Self”: A Summer Somatic Series\nITHACA\, NY — Local educator and wellness coach Alison Rawlins\, founder of Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC\, is proud to announce a new 8-part workshop series\, “The Architecture of the Self\,” running Sunday afternoons from July 19 through September 6.\nAt the heart of this series is the debut of the Concentric Boundaries curriculum—a somatic guide designed to help participants move past intellectualized “rules” and into the felt-sense reality of their personal space. By framing emotional and professional security through architectural metaphors\, Rawlins invites the community to rebuild their internal infrastructure with kindness and clarity.\nA Somatic Sunday Rhythm Each session takes place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rawlins’ home studio in Ithaca. The afternoons are structured to facilitate deep transition:\nThe Welcome Circle: Setting the architectural theme.\nThe Snack & Shift: A light nourishment break to move from “thinking” to “sensing.”\nArtistic Exploration: Hands-on creative work to map the internal self.\nClosing: Integrating the blueprint before the week begins.\nThe Summer Schedule:\nJuly 19: Part 1 – The Foundation\nJuly 26: Part 2 – The Threshold\nAugust 2: Part 3 – The Windows (THINK Filter)\nAugust 9: Part 4 – The Observation Deck\nAugust 16: Part 5 – Tapestries & Bivouacs\nAugust 23: Part 6 – Clarity is Kindness\nAugust 30: Part 7 – Conflict as a Gateway\nSeptember 6: Part 8 – The Renovation Blueprint\nLogistics & Materials Participants are encouraged to bring a dedicated journal and a sketchbook specifically for this course to document their somatic evolution. While the workshops are held in a cozy home environment\, Rawlins notes with a wink that her “curious dogs” will be safely contained so the group can focus on the work at hand.\nInvestment:\nFull 8-Week Blueprint: $100 suggested donation (Includes weekly coaching check-ins).\nA La Carte: $10–$35 suggested donation per session.\nAbout Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC: Teaching Ithaca Wellness provides mindfulness-based art curriculum and therapeutic coaching to the Ithaca community\, focusing on empowering individuals through creative expression and boundary work.\nContact: Alison Rawlins Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC teachingithacawellness.com (607) 280-4538\nwww.teachingithacawellness.com

SUMMARY:A Guided Generative Poetry Workshop: Finding Lightness in a Painful Estrangement
DESCRIPTION:Join Barbara Regenspan for a free guided generative poetry workshop for non-poets and experienced poets! The event will consist of a brief poetry reading and generative writing workshop on the subject of finding lightness in a painful estrangement. \nBarbara will read her poems resonant with her own experience and speak briefly about the magic of poetry to express humor and lightness around the heavy experience of being estranged from one’s child. The workshop will include two twelve minute generative writing sessions for the participants and a voluntary reading of drafts. \nAbout Barbara Regenspan: For many years Barbara Regenspan taught leadership in social justice-focused education at Colgate University. Her second book\, Haunting and the Educational Imagination\, inspired in her a new passion for poetry. Now living in Ithaca\, NY with her husband David\, she writes poems\, prose\, and opinion pieces\, and leads the Cascadilla Writer’s Group. With a friend in Wuhan\, China\, she is exploring a poetry of daily life for challenging times. \nFor more about Barbara\, visit her faculty page at Colgate University\, and check out her book The Chessmaster’s Daughter.

SUMMARY:King Alcohol Ends Reign: Ithaca’s Prohibition History Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:In the early 1900s\, Ithaca\, NY earned some colorful nicknames: “Sodom\,” “Sin City\,” and “Rum Town\, USA.” Long before national Prohibition took hold\, Ithacans were already battling over booze\, morality\, and modernity. \n“King Alcohol Ends Reign” is a 10-block walking tour through downtown Ithaca that traces the city’s spirited (and often surprising) history with Prohibition. Led by trained docents from The History Center\, this 60–70 minute experience takes you to the actual sites of speakeasies\, dry raids\, church protests\, saloons\, and reform rallies—uncovering how Ithaca became one of the first cities in New York State to go dry. \nThrough historic images\, newspaper headlines\, and stories of resistance and reform\, you’ll see the city in a whole new light. Whether you’re a local or just visiting\, you’ll never look at downtown Ithaca the same way again. \nTours are Thursday-Saturday at 5:30 PM \nWhat: 75 minute walking tour \nWhere: The History Center in Tompkins County\, 110 N Tioga St\, Ithaca NY 14850 \nWho: This tour is designed for ages 16-116 \nWear Comfortable Shoes\, Bring an Umbrella\, Jacket\, and Water Bottle \nWeather – this tour takes place rain or shine! In case of severe weather\, we’ll determine cancellations by 10:30 am the morning-of.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: The Sapsuckers
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of The Sapsuckers by author Sam Farhi\, in conversation with Hardy Griffin! \nAbout the book: “Don’t tell mom.” Those were the last words Rem ever told his little brother Pete in the summer of 2004 before slipping out the door of their trailer with a half-filled backpack\, disappearing into the night forever. Words that haunt Pete almost as much as the ones scrawled over Rem’s lifeless body when the police found him later\, hanging by a gorge in the sleepy upstate college town of Ithaca\, New York. The police declared it a suicide\, but for Pete and his mother Peg\, the truth is something both more complicated and more simple than that. The Sapsuckers is a literary anti-mystery suffused with slow dread\, a compelling exploration of our obsession with true-crime\, and a mesmerizing debut that probes the tenuous connection of bonds that are forged in trauma. \nAbout the author: Sam grew up in Ithaca\, NY but he is now based in Baltimore. Most recently he’s written the Hourglass films for Daniel Arsham and Adidas. His debut novel\, The Sapsuckers\, will be published by Spuyten Duyvil in Summer 2026. His work has appeared in The Opiate\, PACKET Biweekly\, ThoseThatThis\, Vogue Italia Online\, HBO’s New York Latino Film Festival\, Yale’s Paprika! and The Wall. His zines have been sold at OHWOW Bookclub and aNYthing in downtown Manhattan. He has an MFA in Creative Writing from Long Island University. \nAbout the conversation partner: Hardy Griffin recently won The Masters Review’s Summer Fiction Prize\, and his writing has appeared in New Flash Fiction\, Alimentum\, Assisi\, The Washington Post\, American Letters & Commentary\, and others. He wrote the chapter on Voice for The Gotham Guide to Writing Fiction (Bloomsbury).
