SUMMARY:Busking for Justice: Bear Fox & Lydia Garrison
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, November 6\, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at Café Dewitt\, Dewitt Mall\, 215 N. Cayuga St.\, Ithaca\, for an uplifting evening of music\, community\, and solidarity. \nMohawk singer-songwriter Bear Fox and Ithaca musician Lydia Garrison share a musical friendship that began in 2001\, when Lydia visited the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation on a high school cultural exchange and community service trip. Over the years\, they’ve continued to inspire one another through songwriting\, recording\, and performing together. \nBear’s powerful singing and songwriting have deeply influenced Lydia\, who recorded Bear’s song “Sky World” with Bear contributing vocals and instrumentation. Bear later invited Lydia to sing and play on her album Diamond. When they perform together\, Bear’s songs and voice meet Lydia’s warm vocals and instrumental accompaniment in a collaboration rooted in friendship\, mutual inspiration\, and a shared love of music.\nBusking for Justice brings the community together through music and solidarity. Donations support immigrants and families impacted by detention and deportation. Admission is free\, and donations are encouraged.\nCome enjoy an evening of beautiful music and community connection!

SUMMARY:Dreams of Small Countries Book Talk: Camille Suarez in conversation with Paul Ortiz
DESCRIPTION:Join Camille Suárez and Paul Ortiz for a conversation on Dreams of Small Countries: How Californios\, Land Conflicts\, and Race Shaped the Golden State.\nPrior to US conquest\, a group of elite\, mixed-race Mexicans called Californios nurtured the dream of patria chica (“small homeland”) in what is now the state of California. Californios’ settler dreams of wealth and privilege depended upon controlling Indigenous land and labor\, but after Anglo settlers and the US Army arrived\, Californios struggled to hold onto their own way of life. \nCamille Suárez shows that rather than challenge the new regime\, elite Californios allied with both the US Army and Anglo settlers\, whom they viewed as racial counterparts\, to ensure that their dream survived. Despite their differences\, Californio and Anglo settlers initially worked together to subjugate Indigenous peoples and exclude non-white residents. However\, Californios failed to see that their own lands and power stood in the way of the white settler state. Over time\, the legal regime Californios helped shape undermined their own political power\, whiteness\, and claims to the land. By centering Californios as key political actors from the beginning of the US-Mexico War through the Civil War and Reconstruction\, Dreams of Small Countries reexamines the origins of California statehood and explains how California became a white settler state.

SUMMARY:The Craft Book Club for Writers
DESCRIPTION:The Craft Book Club is a reading group that will focus on critical thinking and discussion around the writer’s craft. Where do they write? What methodologies do they use to support their writing process? How is form and language playing a role? If you were teaching this book to a classroom? What pedagogies would you apply to help your students think deeper into the subject and content? \nThis book club will examine the fiction writing of currently living queer writers. The first group will meet every other Wednesday for a month beginning on October 28th\, 2026. There will be hot tea\, water\, and some light snacks provided. This group is free but donations are encouraged to help the sustainability of the community space. While there is no assigned host? georgia Van Gunten will be there to moderate and encourage an open and respectful discussion. This will be a recurring group so future book recommendations are welcome. \nA zoom interview with the author\, Lee Mandelo\, will take place during the November 18th meeting. \n All are welcome.

SUMMARY:Wine Liberated book launch with Adam Huss
DESCRIPTION:Autumn Leaves is proud to welcome Finger Lakes-based vintner and podcaster Adam Huss for the local book launch of Wine Liberated: The Ecological Revolution and the Vintners Inspiring Change (Chelsea Green Publishing\, 2026). \nOver the last eighty years\, wine has developed into a global monoculture—but an eclectic group of vintner rebels are redefining the culture and creation of wine. Since 2019\, Adam L. Huss\, winemaker and host of the popular podcast Beyond Organic Wine\, has been seeking out\, interviewing\, and learning from a revolutionary group of producers who are pushing wine beyond the boundaries of the industry’s hegemony. Wine Liberated explores the big questions about what wine is and what it can become when it’s ecologically minded\, diverse\, and even more delicious. \n“This book gets at something I think about constantly—that wine is agriculture\, culture\, and place before it’s ever a commodity with a score. It’s a refreshing\, clear-eyed read that made me think differently about wine\, even after a lifetime in it. A revolutionary point of view\, and something we all need to read these days.” —Rajat Parr\, James Beard Award–winning sommelier; winemaker\, Phelan Farm \nThis event is free. Join us upstairs on the mezzanine. Keep in mind\, seating is limited. Yes\, there will be wine. \nAbout the author:\nAdam Huss is a wine grower\, winery owner\, and the host the Beyond Organic Wine Podcast. He has interviewed over 180 wine producers\, scientists\, and farmers from around the world. Adam is the founder of Crenshaw Cru Winegarden and Centralas\, a winery headquartered in South Los Angeles. He recently relocated to the Finger Lakes region of New York State\, where he plans to develop an experimentation site for married vines\, which are co-planted perennial polycultures made of vines growing on living trees supported by an understory of other beneficial plants. Follow him on Instagram at @organicwinepodcast.

SUMMARY:Chile In Their Hearts with John Dinges
DESCRIPTION:Autumn Leaves is proud to welcome award-winning reporter John Dinges\, author of The Condor Years: How Pinochet and His Allies Brought Terrorism to Three Continents. He’ll be here to discuss his new book Chile in Their Hearts: The Untold Story of Two Americans Who Went Missing After the Coup (University of California Press\, 2025). \nSet against the romance of revolution and the terror of a military coup\, this arresting mystery is also a reckoning with the callousness of U.S. foreign policy … John Dinges scoured U.S. and Chilean archives and interviewed new witnesses to reveal the true story of the 1973 killings of Charles Horman and Frank Teruggi. Chile in Their Hearts is a compelling adventure of the two Americans’ lives against the backdrop of U.S. intervention in Chile. \nRaymond B. Craib\, Professor of History at Cornell University and author of Adventure Capitalism (PM Press\, 2022)\, will moderate. \nThis event is free. Join us upstairs on the mezzanine. Keep in mind\, seating is limited.

SUMMARY:Max Childs & Louistin
