SUMMARY:One Night With You
DESCRIPTION:Are you lonesome tonight and looking for a hunk o’ love? Well\, Elvis isn’t dead and he’s crooning over dinner at K-HOUSE in the K-Room\, and no that is not a joke about his substance use in the later years. Enjoy a 3-course meal\, while you watch a 2-act show and by golly you might even decide you feel loose and want to sing along to your favorite classic rock songs.\n\nIf you’ve got a suspicious mind and want the full story\, you’ll just have to come hear it from the King himself.\nCome spend one night with Elvis & friends. The friends are different every month and there are endless songs for Elvis to cover when he works his way through his own song repertoire…

SUMMARY:We Declare: A Storytelling Project for Our Times
DESCRIPTION:What: We Declare – A Storytelling Project for Our Times\nWhen: June 27\, 2026 – Performances at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.\nWhere: Kitchen Theatre Company\, 417 W. State Street\, Ithaca NY\nTickets: FREE event (sliding scale offered) but tickets are required kitchentheatre.org/wedeclare \nWe Declare is a storytelling project for these times. In the lead-up to July 4\, 2026\, participating local writers have created short pieces in response to brief phrases taken directly from the Declaration of Independence. These personal stories are not editorials\, but provide a snapshot into this moment in American history\, a period with uncanny parallels to 1776. \nAt a time when our federal government threatens to silence and censor free speech\, We Declare is an act of rebellion to speak out; when they seek to divide us\, we stand together; when they spread hate\, we listen to one another with love and respect. The stories amplify compelling voices with the goal of building greater community through increased understanding and empathy. \n2026 marks two anniversaries: the 250th of the Declaration of Independence\, and the 20th of Ellen Schmidt’s Ithaca-based Writing Room community. From across the US and 15 countries\, more than 100 people have participated in Ellen Schmidt’s classes. Some have moved far away\, we’ve seen each other through illnesses\, births\, deaths and a pandemic. We’ve learned the power of expressing ourselves and listening deeply to one another through the gift of writing. Now we invite you to share in this powerful experience. \nWe Declare writers are giving two performances on June 27 at the Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca\, at 1 pm and 4 pm. Tickets are free on a sliding scale\, but registration is required: kitchentheatre.org/wedeclare \nPhoto: “Liberty through Mist and Haze” by Terry Plater \nThis program is made possible in part with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program from the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of\nthe office of the Governor and NYS Legislature\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County

SUMMARY:Abolition of White Democracy Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:Description written by host\, Ashley Cake: I’ve been threatening to do a community read of Abolition of White Democracy for some years now\, and the time is finally nigh. Georgia at Ithaca Writing Studio is gonna host\, and I’m asking $30 for six meetups\, $20 for the Writing Studio and $10 for me. I’m capping it at 10 participants for space and “let’s take it easy” reasons and I’m asking for folks who are local\, can commit to reading the book and coming to all 6 Monday evening meetings\, and ideally are living that white democracy life. What do i mean? You check a majority of these boxes: \n– you are a person of pallor (and not defensive or penitential about it) \n– You have a liberal arts education with at least a BA \n– You have a vehicle (maybe two\, lease ok) \n– You own your home (maybe two\, with mortgage ok) \n– you have investment accounts (IRA\, 401k\, mutual funds\, CDs\, etc) \n– you have life insurance \n– you are registered to vote as either a Democrat or a Republican \n– You serve(d) on boards and/or commissions (foundations\, PTAs\, not for profits\, city/county/state appointments\, etc. mutual aid doesn’t count) \n– Relatively high earning (80k – 200k/year) \n– Manager or C-suite for most of your career \n– Broadly familiar with North Atlantic political and social histories and thinkers of race & class (especially W.E.B. Dubois\, Karl Marx\, Michel Foucault\, James Baldwin\, Thomas Jefferson\, Alexis de Tocqueville\, Malcolm X\, et. al.) \nI won’t turn away anyone who wants to commit to the reading group (up to ten participants)\, but you will get the most out of this conversation if you’re navigating racial capitalism without too much trouble. I can make a PDF of the book available for free and everyone should read it\, and participants should be able to order copies through our independent bookstores and pay full price. \nI believe white democracy is white people’s problem because we built it with our ambitions and maintain it with our participation. I believe it’s possible for white folks to unravel these genocidal structures\, and there’s no better time than now. \nBio: Ashley Cake was born and raised in Ithaca\, NY and has been a lifelong service worker in the hospitality industry\, most recently owning and operating The Watershed & The Downstairs. She is an award-winning labor and public safety advocate\, serving on the boards of organizations from Ithaca Underground to Alternatives Federal Credit Union. In her academic career\, Ashley has written and taught extensively on Enwhitenment European philosophy — particularly Soren Kierkegaard and Lacanian psychoanalysis — as well as comparative religion — particularly American social justice and liberationist histories. Her current praxis seeks to work the critical junctures of abolition\, emergent strategies of care and transformative justice\, which is to say: Land Back & Reparations.

DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\nTeaching Ithaca Wellness Launches “The Architecture of the Self”: A Summer Somatic Series\nITHACA\, NY — Local educator and wellness coach Alison Rawlins\, founder of Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC\, is proud to announce a new 8-part workshop series\, “The Architecture of the Self\,” running Sunday afternoons from July 19 through September 6.\nAt the heart of this series is the debut of the Concentric Boundaries curriculum—a somatic guide designed to help participants move past intellectualized “rules” and into the felt-sense reality of their personal space. By framing emotional and professional security through architectural metaphors\, Rawlins invites the community to rebuild their internal infrastructure with kindness and clarity.\nA Somatic Sunday Rhythm Each session takes place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rawlins’ home studio in Ithaca. The afternoons are structured to facilitate deep transition:\nThe Welcome Circle: Setting the architectural theme.\nThe Snack & Shift: A light nourishment break to move from “thinking” to “sensing.”\nArtistic Exploration: Hands-on creative work to map the internal self.\nClosing: Integrating the blueprint before the week begins.\nThe Summer Schedule:\nJuly 19: Part 1 – The Foundation\nJuly 26: Part 2 – The Threshold\nAugust 2: Part 3 – The Windows (THINK Filter)\nAugust 9: Part 4 – The Observation Deck\nAugust 16: Part 5 – Tapestries & Bivouacs\nAugust 23: Part 6 – Clarity is Kindness\nAugust 30: Part 7 – Conflict as a Gateway\nSeptember 6: Part 8 – The Renovation Blueprint\nLogistics & Materials Participants are encouraged to bring a dedicated journal and a sketchbook specifically for this course to document their somatic evolution. While the workshops are held in a cozy home environment\, Rawlins notes with a wink that her “curious dogs” will be safely contained so the group can focus on the work at hand.\nInvestment:\nFull 8-Week Blueprint: $100 suggested donation (Includes weekly coaching check-ins).\nA La Carte: $10–$35 suggested donation per session.\nAbout Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC: Teaching Ithaca Wellness provides mindfulness-based art curriculum and therapeutic coaching to the Ithaca community\, focusing on empowering individuals through creative expression and boundary work.\nContact: Alison Rawlins Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC teachingithacawellness.com (607) 280-4538\nwww.teachingithacawellness.com
