SUMMARY:Book Launch: Mistranslation
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of Mistranslation by author Madeleine Moss\, in conversation with Eleanor Henderson! \nAbout the book: In upstate New York in 2001\, nine-year-old twins Sabina and Camilla spend the summer weathering the moods of their erratic mother while finding themselves pulled toward diverging interests. Their lives are shaken up by the arrival of an Arab French family across the street. Thrilled by what she sees as a link to the country of her origins\, Sabina attempts to befriend the family’s son\, Khalil\, and is rebuffed for reasons she doesn’t understand. Yet as the twins and Khalil come of age\, they are drawn into a tense and ever-shifting triangular dynamic. Mistranslation is a continent-spanning chronicle of family\, inheritance\, and the reverberations of the choices we do or don’t make. \nAbout the author: Madeleine Moss grew up here in Ithaca\, New York\, and holds a degree in French literature from Cornell University. She received her MFA in fiction from Washington University in St. Louis in 2020. Her debut novel\, MISTRANSLATION\, has been named a “Most Anticipated Book of the Year” by Debutiful. She currently lives in Strasbourg\, France\, where she teaches middle and high school English. \nAbout the conversation partner: Eleanor is the author of the memoir Everything I Have Is Yours: A Marriage\, which was named a New York Times Notable Book and a Best Book of 2021 by Vogue; and the novels The Twelve-Mile Straight\, and Ten Thousand Saints\, which was named one of the 10 Best Books of the Year by The New York Times and a finalist for the Award for First Fiction from The Los Angeles Times. It was also the basis for the movie adaptation 10\,000 Saints starring Ethan Hawke. A Professor in the Department of Writing at Ithaca College and a 2024 NYFA Fellow in Fiction\, she will publish her next novel\, The Galaxy\, in August 2027.

SUMMARY:The Pomarium: Drag Show Hosted by Tilia Cordata
DESCRIPTION:The Hangar Theatre’s In Flight Entertainment Series Presents “The Pomarium\,” an immersive drag spectacular inspired by the wild apple forests of Kazakhstan\, the birthplace of the modern apple. \nFrom these primordial forests\, the humble apple began a journey that would shape civilizations\, inspire folklore\, and become one of history’s most enduring symbols. \nThroughout the evening\, performers will guide you through a living orchard of stories\, drawing on myths and legends from around the world. Encounter the forbidden fruit of Eden\, the golden apples of the Hesperides\, the Apple of Discord that sparked the Trojan War\, the enchanted isle of Avalon\, Snow White’s poisoned temptation\, and countless other tales where apples represent love\, temptation\, beauty\, immortality\, transformation\, and fate. \nBlending high-concept drag\, dazzling costumes\, music\, comedy\, and theatrical storytelling\, The Pomarium celebrates the apple not simply as a fruit\, but as a cultural icon whose roots stretch from the forests of Central Asia to every corner of the globe. Like the apple itself\, drag is an act of cultivation—grafted from history\, nourished by community\, and forever evolving into something unexpected and beautiful. \nJoin us beneath the branches for a night where science meets folklore\, history blossoms into fantasy\, and every performance bears forbidden fruit.

SUMMARY:Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:Ancestors is an original live performance bringing together music\, dance\, family history\, and stories and art carried through generations. Created by Ithaca musician and artist McKenzie Lauren Jones\, the work traces lineage\, land\, loss\, resilience\, and the complicated inheritance passed down from previous generations. \nFeaturing new music co-written by McKenzie Lauren Jones and London McDaniel\, original choreography by Megan Omohundro\, and a cast of talented local musicians and dancers\, Ancestors transforms McKenzie’s new body of music into a fully staged experience hosted by Mighty Mickie Quinn. Part concert\, part dance performance\, and something entirely its own\, Ancestors invites audiences into an intimate\, powerful evening built from real family history and brought to life through sound and movement for one night only! \nDoors at 6:30pm\, show starts at 7pm. Local jazz band Plan Z will provide music before and after the performance. \nThis project is made possible in part with SOS grant funding from the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County. \nMcKenzie Lauren Jones is a singer\, songwriter\, and arts and culture worker whose music bridges the personal and political\, the spiritual and material. Based in Ithaca\, NY\, she has been a lifelong cellist\, poet\, dancer\, and vocalist weaving together folk\, soul\, and rock traditions with storytelling. \nAs the frontwoman and songwriter of Strange Heavy and founding member of Mama Look\, McKenzie has performed across local and regional stages for decades. She has released two studio albums with Strange Heavy and is now stepping into solo artistry with Ancestors\, an original project that explores identity\, lineage\, liberation\, and belonging through collaborative and movement-drive songs debuting in 2026. \nMcKenzie has contributed backing instrumentation and vocals to a variety of projects\, including The Ilium Works\, La Llorona\, Drew Kiddoo and the Blackouts\, Laila Belle\, and Rachel Beverly. In 2025\, she presented on music cooperatives at AmericanaFest and also performed in Nashville\, bringing together her dual roles as an artist and activist. \nIn parallel with her music\, McKenzie works as a cooperative developer\, helping to build structures of equity within grassroots organizations and justice-oriented businesses. \nhttps://mckenzielaurenjones.com/
