SUMMARY:A Celebration of Archie Ammons's 100th Birthday
DESCRIPTION:A Celebration of Archie Ammons’s 100th Birthday\nI’m envisioning a gathering of friends\, students\, and admirers of the poet A. R. Ammons on the occasion of his 100th birthday (Feb. 18). Attendees will be encouraged to bring their favorite Ammons poems to share. Poems inspired by or addressed to Ammons will also be welcome\, along with reminiscences and reflections. If time permits\, I can play recordings of Ammons reading his poems\, and share stories from my upcoming biography of the poet. \nPlease join us on Sunday\, February 22\, from 2 to 4 at Buffalo Street Books for an informal gathering in celebration of Ithaca poet Archie Ammons’s 100th birthday. Recipient of a host of honors\, from the National Book Award to the Bollingen Prize\, Ammons is widely regarded as one of the great poets of the later 20th century. Participants are invited to bring a favorite Ammons poem to read (or a poem of their own in tribute to him). We’ll exchange stories and reminiscences\, and\, time permitting\, Roger Gilbert will share a highlight or two from his almost-completed biography of the poet.
