DESCRIPTION:Raw Pages is a monthly writing circle where fiction and CNF writers can come together to share their “raw” writing in an open\, nonjudgemental\, nurturing environment. \nThe title “Raw Pages” comes from the photography world where the artist has the option to shoot “raw” leaving their work opportunity to be more flexible to future editing. \nThis group has evolved into a circle where writers have 5 minutes each to share a work of CNF or fiction that is new\, unedited\, and not yet ready for critical feedback. This an opportunity to share work with others and swap ideas about writing that is still in the planning stages and needing encouragement. So far there is a cast of writers who have come to know each other and the writing their peers are currently working on. We always welcome new folks! \nBring a piece of writing that is 5 minutes read out loud\, feel free to bring some copies if you want others to read along while you read out loud. Please bring pen and paper for notes as well as for a writing prompt given by Daniel at the end. We ask writers to come prepared to give positive and nurturing feedback to each other. The event is free and open to the public — no registration required. \nThe forum will bring together members of the City of Ithaca’s Special Committee on Wrongful Discharge and Labor Protections alongside a panel of local business owners\, property owners\, and community stakeholders. A public question-and-answer session will follow. \nThe Special Committee was established by the Mayor and Common Council to evaluate potential legislation that would move the City away from at-will employment practices and require documented justification — or “just cause” — before an employer can terminate a worker. The Committee is charged with gathering broad stakeholder input before any legislation is drafted\, and the Downtown Ithaca Alliance is specifically named as a community partner in that process. \nThis roundtable discussion represents an important opportunity for Downtown businesses and stakeholders to learn about the proposal\, understand its potential implications\, and make their voices heard. \nThe event is free and open to all members of the public. In the lead-up to July 4\, 2026\, participating local writers have created short pieces in response to brief phrases taken directly from the Declaration of Independence. These personal stories are not editorials\, but provide a snapshot into this moment in American history\, a period with uncanny parallels to 1776. \nAt a time when our federal government threatens to silence and censor free speech\, We Declare is an act of rebellion to speak out; when they seek to divide us\, we stand together; when they spread hate\, we listen to one another with love and respect. The stories amplify compelling voices with the goal of building greater community through increased understanding and empathy.   \n2026 marks two anniversaries:  the 250th of the Declaration of Independence\, and the 20th of Ellen Schmidt’s Ithaca-based Writing Room community. From across the US and 15 countries\, more than 100  people have participated in Ellen Schmidt’s classes.  Some have moved far away\, we’ve seen each other through illnesses\, births\, deaths and a pandemic. We’ve learned the power of expressing ourselves and listening deeply to one another through the gift of writing. Now we invite you to share in this powerful experience. \nWe Declare writers are giving two performances on June 27 at the Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca\, at 1 pm and 4 pm. By framing emotional and professional security through architectural metaphors\, Rawlins invites the community to rebuild their internal infrastructure with kindness and clarity.\nA Somatic Sunday Rhythm Each session takes place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rawlins’ home studio in Ithaca.
