SUMMARY:"The Architecture of the Self": A Summer Somatic Series
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\nTeaching Ithaca Wellness Launches “The Architecture of the Self”: A Summer Somatic Series\nITHACA\, NY — Local educator and wellness coach Alison Rawlins\, founder of Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC\, is proud to announce a new 8-part workshop series\, “The Architecture of the Self\,” running Sunday afternoons from July 19 through September 6.\nAt the heart of this series is the debut of the Concentric Boundaries curriculum—a somatic guide designed to help participants move past intellectualized “rules” and into the felt-sense reality of their personal space. By framing emotional and professional security through architectural metaphors\, Rawlins invites the community to rebuild their internal infrastructure with kindness and clarity.\nA Somatic Sunday Rhythm Each session takes place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rawlins’ home studio in Ithaca. The afternoons are structured to facilitate deep transition:\nThe Welcome Circle: Setting the architectural theme.\nThe Snack & Shift: A light nourishment break to move from “thinking” to “sensing.”\nArtistic Exploration: Hands-on creative work to map the internal self.\nClosing: Integrating the blueprint before the week begins.\nThe Summer Schedule:\nJuly 19: Part 1 – The Foundation\nJuly 26: Part 2 – The Threshold\nAugust 2: Part 3 – The Windows (THINK Filter)\nAugust 9: Part 4 – The Observation Deck\nAugust 16: Part 5 – Tapestries & Bivouacs\nAugust 23: Part 6 – Clarity is Kindness\nAugust 30: Part 7 – Conflict as a Gateway\nSeptember 6: Part 8 – The Renovation Blueprint\nLogistics & Materials Participants are encouraged to bring a dedicated journal and a sketchbook specifically for this course to document their somatic evolution. While the workshops are held in a cozy home environment\, Rawlins notes with a wink that her “curious dogs” will be safely contained so the group can focus on the work at hand.\nInvestment:\nFull 8-Week Blueprint: $100 suggested donation (Includes weekly coaching check-ins).\nA La Carte: $10–$35 suggested donation per session.\nAbout Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC: Teaching Ithaca Wellness provides mindfulness-based art curriculum and therapeutic coaching to the Ithaca community\, focusing on empowering individuals through creative expression and boundary work.\nContact: Alison Rawlins Teaching Ithaca Wellness\, LLC teachingithacawellness.com (607) 280-4538\nwww.teachingithacawellness.com

SUMMARY:King Alcohol Ends Reign: Ithaca’s Prohibition History Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:In the early 1900s\, Ithaca\, NY earned some colorful nicknames: “Sodom\,” “Sin City\,” and “Rum Town\, USA.” Long before national Prohibition took hold\, Ithacans were already battling over booze\, morality\, and modernity. \n“King Alcohol Ends Reign” is a 10-block walking tour through downtown Ithaca that traces the city’s spirited (and often surprising) history with Prohibition. Led by trained docents from The History Center\, this 60–70 minute experience takes you to the actual sites of speakeasies\, dry raids\, church protests\, saloons\, and reform rallies—uncovering how Ithaca became one of the first cities in New York State to go dry. \nThrough historic images\, newspaper headlines\, and stories of resistance and reform\, you’ll see the city in a whole new light. Whether you’re a local or just visiting\, you’ll never look at downtown Ithaca the same way again. \nTours are Thursday-Saturday at 5:30 PM \nWhat: 75 minute walking tour \nWhere: The History Center in Tompkins County\, 110 N Tioga St\, Ithaca NY 14850 \nWho: This tour is designed for ages 16-116 \nWear Comfortable Shoes\, Bring an Umbrella\, Jacket\, and Water Bottle \nWeather – this tour takes place rain or shine! In case of severe weather\, we’ll determine cancellations by 10:30 am the morning-of.

SUMMARY:K-HOUSE - Showcase of Art Director Angel Hernandez During Ithaca Gallery Night AND Live Salsa - K Chévere
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, August 7th for an evening celebrating the power of art and music to bring people together. \nFrom 5–8 PM\, explore the work of Angel Hernandez\, whose mixed-media exhibition is deeply influenced by his Puerto Rican heritage\, New York roots\, street art\, music\, and contemporary culture. His bold\, layered work tells stories of identity\, community\, and resilience through a uniquely personal lens. \nThen from 8-9 PM\, stay and dance to live salsa music with K Chévere in Room K. \nK Chévere was formed right here at K-HOUSE as part of our mission to help fill cultural gaps in Ithaca by creating opportunities for musicians to connect and collaborate. While Ithaca has had salsa bands in the past\, there isn’t currently an active local salsa band despite the incredible talent in our community. We wanted to help bring that tradition back. \nThe band’s name has a special meaning. It plays on the Spanish phrase “¡Qué Chévere!” which reflects the joy\, energy\, and spirit of salsa and the band’s vision of celebrating the rich music and dance traditions of Latin America. “K” honors both K-HOUSE and Room K\, where the project was born. \nGallery Night is 5–8 PM featuring Angel Hernandez then the dance party with K Chévere is 8-9 PM! \nRoom K at K-HOUSE Karaoke & Arts Hub\nSuggested donation: $5 at the door \nTwo premieres. One night. Experience Angel Hernandez’s powerful artwork and then join the dance party to be a part of Room K’s Pan-Latin salsa project. We can’t wait to share this special evening with you. \nwww.ithacagallerynight.com/exhibits/khouse\nwww.facebook.com/GetDesignsHere \n#KHOUSEIthaca #GalleryNight #QueChevere #Salsa #DowntownIthaca

SUMMARY:The Weather Inside: Poetry Reading with Stevie Edwards in Conversation with Liza Flum
DESCRIPTION:Join Stevie Edwards for a poetry reading in conversation with Liza Flum! \nAbout the book: In The Weather Inside\, Stevie Edwards measures the emotional atmosphere of a mind navigating bipolar disorder\, complex PTSD\, generalized anxiety disorder\, and alcoholism while forging intimacy and creative resilience in a rapidly declining world. \nBoth as someone who has struggled with mental health and as a feminist approaching middle age\, Edwards interrogates parenthood and marriage: What forms of nurturing survive when traditional roles and certainties do not? Can bringing children into a collapsing world still be an act of hope? When your partner does not want children\, where should you divert your surfeit of love? The poet grieves\, “I am chanting the name of a daughter / my husband doesn’t want / enough\, the child I’ve spent years / not being sure I deserved.” \nThis fiercely honest and intimate collection offers a vision of adulthood shaped by the capacity to inhabit an embattled inner world. With clarity and dark wit\, Edwards probes the uneasy border between solitude and connection\, asserting the relationship between caring for oneself and caring for the wider world. \nAbout the author: Dr. Stevie Edwards is an Assistant Professor at Clemson University and Poetry Editor of The South Carolina Review. Stevie’s poems have appeared in Poetry\, American Poetry Review\, TriQuarterly\, The Southern Review\, and elsewhere. She is the author of The Weather Inside (University of Arkansas Press\, 2026)\, Quiet Armor (Northwestern University Press\, 2023)\, Sadness Workshop (Button Poetry\, 2018)\, Humanly (Small Doggies Press\, 2015)\, and Good Grief (Write Bloody Publishing\, 2012). She holds a PhD from the University of North Texas and an MFA from Cornell University. Originally a Michigander\, she now lives in South Carolina with her spouse and a small herd of rescue pitbulls. Her work has been supported by Vermont Studio Center\, Sewanee Writers’ Conference\, SAFTA Firefly Farms\, and Buinho Creative Hub.
