Plus, dozens of locations showcasing the latest art pieces from local artists
ITHACA, OCTOBER 2, 2019 — This Friday’s Gallery Night in Downtown Ithaca will include a special demonstration from one of the community’s fashion designers.
Layne Dann, a highly-skilled designer who owns Gee June Bridal in Press Bay Court, will create a bridal gown from initial sketch to final stitch. Using material donated by Sew Green, Dann will be crafting the dress throughout the day on Friday, Oct. 4 in the front window of Breathe, a women’s clothing store inside of Center Ithaca at 171 E. State St., the Commons. The specialty garment will be complete and on display at 6:15 p.m. that evening. The Gallery Night tour is held from 5 to 8 p.m.
“I chose to unveil this during Gallery Night in Ithaca so that fashion may become a stronger part of our community’s conversation in terms of Art. We recognize, as small business owners, and as a downtown that we need to continue growing our retail and become an inviting district for more fashion merchandisers. Hopefully, more designers and stylists will come forward to do the same and maybe even set up shop, as I did,” says Dann.
“Gallery Night regularly showcases spectacular artwork curated by extraordinary local and regional artists. Layne Dann’s unique work that will be on display this month is another fine example of the extremely talented creators we have in our community,” says Allison Graffin, marketing director for the Downtown Ithaca Alliance.
In addition to Dann’s live demonstration, Gallery Night guests are also invited to view the latest exhibits created by Martin Kepecs, Shawn Burke, Gary Rith, Dewey Neild, Erika Medina, Gaia Woolf-Nightingall, JayLeigh, Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku, Laurin Ramsey, Hilando Fino, José Buenaventura González and Paulina Velázquez Solís, Candace Edwards, Rochelle Brockington, and Nwaobiala, Dan Segal, Lisa Baechtle, Phoenix Thunder Lee Kacyvenski, Brittany Haines, Lee Iannone, Clarissa Loomis, and Jessica Stratton, Kristin Dutcher and Chelsea Fausel, Zoe Learner Ponterio, Diane Newton and Patty Porter, Annemiek Haralson, Greater Ithaca Art Trail Artists, Domenica Brockman, and Stan Bowman.
Plus, Whitham Planning and Designs will host an open house and The Mink Gallery is hosting a kick-off party for Ithaca’s annual Art Trail.
