Plenty of amazing new art to be seen at Ithaca’s Gallery Night

Walkable art tour happening 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday in Downtown Ithaca

ITHACA NY AUGUST 1, 2018 – Dozens of highly skilled local and regional artists are participating in this month’s Gallery Night set for Friday, August 3 at many participating galleries, shops, and businesses in and around downtown Ithaca.

Digital art created by Ithaca’s own Torrie Tiffany are among the new art displays at this month’s Gallery Night. You can view Torrie Tiffany’s collection at the Community Arts Partnership Artspace in Center Ithaca on the Commons.

You’ll find impressive pieces made by Ithaca’s own award-winning digital artist Torrie Tiffany, whose work is inspired by the elements and connective energy of our living universe. An example of her artistry, a piece titled “Anthology” is featured on the cover of this month’s Gallery Night Booklet and you’ll be able to see more of her Anthropology collection at the Community Arts Partnership’s Artspace located in Center Ithaca on the Commons.

And, you won’t want to miss the works of photographer Matt Mayers. This two-time Cornell graduate will present his exhibit “Seeing the World in High Dynamic Range” at Buffalo Street Books located in the Dewitt Mall. Mayer’s photography showcases the overwhelming beauty of breathtaking sunsets on the lake, gorges, fall foliage, and bridges captured to appear as paintings is an example of this delicate method.

You’ll also want to view the latest prints by Carl Schofield. His long-term interest in photography dates back to his teens and following his retirement as a research scientist with the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University he has pursued this former hobby more vigorously as an avocation. Schofield’s primary interests are nature, landscape, and travel photography. Infrared landscape photography is also of particular interest to him.  You can view his exhibit at Sunny Days of Ithaca, 123 S. Cayuga Street.

Plus, come meet State of the Art Gallery’s new members Saundra Goodman, textile artist; Tobias Inigo, drawing and painting; Harry Littell, photography; and Vanessa McCaffery, pen and ink drawings. A reception will be held for this artistic group during Gallery Night, and their art pieces will be available for viewing at the gallery from August 1 through September 2.

For history buffs,  the History Center in Tompkins County will be hosting a special event between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Eight Square Schoolhouse on Hanshaw Road in the Town of Dryden. Guests will learn about the schoolhouse, play, and complete some artwork on chalkboards. Prizes will be given out for the most creative artwork.
