For a preview\, see this video.   \nOpening for the Kaplan Cousins are members of Ithaca’s Third Place Theater\, a local improv comedy theater that hosts shows\, jams and other events almost every week.  \nThe show begins at 7:30 p.m. March 28 at the Hangar. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students\, and can be purchased online or at the door. \nA community-driven arts campus for regional audiences and tourists alike\, the Hangar Theatre is a year-round venue approaching its 52nd MainStage season. Doctorow’s sweeping novel\, “Ragtime” features music by Stephen Flaherty\, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens\, and a book by Terrence McNally. “Ragtime” is presented by the Hangar Theatre in association with FIM Flint Repertory Theatre\, whose Producing Artistic Director\, Michael Lluberes\, also serves as director for the Hangar production. \nThe opening performance will take place on Friday\, July 12\, at 7:30 p.m.\, preceded by a preview performance on Thursday\, July 11\, also at 7:30 p.m.; matinee and evening performances will run through Saturday\, July 20. SUMMARY:Opera Ithaca Presents The Turn of the Screw
DESCRIPTION:Opera Ithaca to end season in April with a unique horror-opera! \nOpera Ithaca continues to be a space for interesting and daring opera with its final show of the season\, The Turn of the Screw. This exciting piece has a unique place in opera history as one of very few in the horror genre. The opera\, adapted from a novella by the legendary British-American author Henry James which served to popularize the ghost story as a genre\, was composed by Benjamin Britten\, with a libretto by Myfanwy Piper. \nThis is a mysterious ‘haunted house’ story. It centers on two parentless children\, Miles and Flora\, and their unnamed Governess\, who is convinced that the children are being menaced by ghosts. It is never entirely clear whether the children can see the spirits\, or if the Governess is imagining them. The tragic ending of the opera is colored by the same ambiguity. \nA stellar cast includes soprano Lynn Craver as the Governess\, soprano Celeste Morales as Mrs. Grose\, tenor Gabriel Hernandez as Peter Quint\, soprano\, Melissa Wimbish as Miss Jessel\, soprano\, Emma Commisso as Flora\, and male soprano Wyatt McDaniel as Miles.\nStage director Susannah Berryman will bring this work to life\, together with music director Kristin Ditlow. \nThe Turn of the Screw will be performed April 19 and 21\, 2024\, at The Hangar Theater.
