DESCRIPTION:Make a Fairy Quilt! – Spring Fairy Festival Event \nWHEN: Saturday March 18th – 12-3pm \nWHERE: CAP ArtSpace Gallery (First Floor) in the Tompkins Center for History & Culture on the Ithaca Commons – 110 North Tioga St. Ithaca NY 14850. \nAll ages (yes kids AND adults!) are invited to create their own 12″x12″ fleece fairy or doll quilt at The History Center! As you build your fairy homes\, make sure you fairies have a cozy spot to sleep! Quilts made in Tompkins County date back over 200 years! Make your own small quilt\, and then explore the historic quilts on display in the Exhibit Hall! \nCraft supplies for various ages/levels of crafting skills will be provided. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend with adult support. \nThis is a drop-in event as part of Spring Fairy Festival in Downtown Ithaca\, we cannot accommodate more than 15 people to participate at a time. DESCRIPTION:WHAT does a quilt appraisal include? \nAppraisals of quilted textiles for individuals\, exhibitions\, and quilt shows.\nUse\, care\, display and storage information for new and old textiles.\nDating your quilt. Quilt appraisers have knowledge of the history of textiles\, style trends\, and geographic differences in styles of quilts.\nRepairs to a quilt which require expert knowledge of methods of repair\, conservation and restoration. Appraisers have the resources to direct you to the correct professionals for this.\nConstruction possibilities of old tops and blocks. Appraisers have the knowledge of fabric and construction to be able to help you determine the best answer to your questions.\nRead over this blog to see whether or not you should have your vintage quilt appraised: https://www.quiltinghub.com/Articles/ArticleID/538 \nWHEN: Saturday February 25th – Appointments MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE – Appraisal appointments cost $40 \nWHERE: Joe Mareane Conference Room (Second Floor) in the Tompkins Center for History & Culture on the Ithaca Commons – 110 North Tioga St. Ithaca NY 14850. \nPRESENTER: Cathy Rosa Klimaszewski \nEach appointment slot is 30 minutes. Appraisals are completed in private with the owner. The quilt is examined\, measured\, and photographed. Cathy then conducts research to determine the current fair market value for the quilt. Completed written appraisal is sent to the owner within two weeks. \nLimited appointments are available Saturday Feb 25th\, if there is a lot of interest\, we will host another appraisal program in the spring. \nMEET CATHY\nCathy Rosa Klimaszewski is a professional quilt appraiser\, educator\, and consultant. She has curated numerous quilt exhibitions shown at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art\, Cornell University\, including shows that traveled to the Brandywine River Museum\, New York State Museum\, and Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University. Klimaszewski also presents quilt lectures and has taught classes related to quilt history\, design\, and care. She is retired from her position as Associate Director/Harriet Ames Charitable Trust Curator of Education at the Johnson Museum after 32 years with the institution. Klimaszewski received a B.F.A. in Art Education and a M.F.A. in Museum Studies from Syracuse University where she also took studio courses in fiber and textile arts.
