Wine and Design

Meet Sara Gaughan: Wine and Design Studio Owner

For the past two and a half years, Sara Gaughan has graced our downtown business community with her impressive art teaching talents. She owns and manages Wine and Design, a national franchise where guests learn how to create unique and beautiful paintings while they sip a glass (or two) of wine.

“I love encouraging people to be creative. Many people walk in the studio thinking they aren’t artistic enough to create something great, so I love seeing the smiles on those peoples’ faces when they’ve realized they can and did do it. All they needed was a little ‘nudge’ on what to work on next in creating their painting,” says Gaughan.

Gaughan lives in Watkins Glen but frequents many parts or the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions. She was a teacher at the Wine and Design in Corning, NY prior to purchasing the Ithaca location.

“Downtown Ithaca is so diverse and has so many interesting people, great shops, and a variety of restaurants. For those reasons alone, it’s a great place to have a business. We love participating in downtown events such as the Ithaca Arts Festival, Ithaca Loves Teachers and Wizarding Weekend,” says Gaughan.

When she’s not busy teaching Wine and Design classes, Gaughan enjoys using the studio to host Paint it Forward, a charity event that helps the area’s less fortunate.

“I enjoy using my artistic talents to help the community in any way that I can,” says Gaughan.

Gaughan is a self-taught artist and a member of the ARTS Council of the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier.

Wine and Design is located at 124 S. Cayuga St. For more information about this fabulous and fun downtown activity, visit https://www.wineanddesign.com/locations/ithaca
