Welcome Student Weekend brings Cornell University, Ithaca College and Tompkins Cortland Community College students downtown over two consecutive Saturdays.

Welcome Student Weekend returns to Downtown Ithaca on August 31st & September 7th, 2019 from 1:00-5:00pm each Saturday.

Downtown Ithaca will partner with Cornell University, Ithaca College, TC3 and the Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) to host CU Downtown on September 7th & IC & TC3 Downtown Day on August 31st.

Welcome Student Weekend is Downtown Ithaca’s way of sharing a bit about who we are with new and returning students, to help them feel welcome and comfortable in their home over the next few years.

Downtown has a lot to offer students in the way of shops, restaurants, services, art & culture, and entertainment for students to feel at home in their new town.

CU Downtown is happening the second Saturday of Downtown Ithaca's Welcome Student Weekend celebration. CU Downtown is a free, family-friendly event, and everyone is invited: new students, returning students, and the whole Ithaca community.

TCAT bus rides for Students to CU Downtown

TCAT will provide extra buses for Routes 70, 72 and 90 throughout the afternoon. Buses will be stopping at North Campus locations every 10-15 min. 12-2:30pm & 3:30 - 5:30pm, every 30 min. 2:30 - 3:30pm. Please show student IDs to ride free.

An afternoon of CU talent for all to enjoy!

CU Downtown gives students and locals a rare opportunity to see diverse student performers all afternoon at the Bernie Milton Pavilion in Bank Alley. Bring the kids! Bring the whole family! Cornell alums are invited to wear university gear and welcome in the school year and our newest students.

In addition to the performances, students are invited to check out open house activities, samples, and special deals inside shops throughout Downtown Ithaca, as well as take part in the annual scavenger hunt with great prizes from downtown businesses. As supplies are limited, students must present their IDs at businesses to participate in the scavenger hunt.

African Dance Repertoire

The African Dance Repertoire (ADR) strives to foster cultural unity and understanding among the students at Cornell and bring awareness of the African culture to the larger Cornell community.

Cornell Lion Dance

A traditional Chinese performance blending martial arts and dance and thought to bring good luck and prosperity.

After Eight A Cappella

Official a cappella subset of the Cornell University Chorus.

High energy Punjabi folk dance and a former quarter finalist on America’s Got Talent.

Founded in 1983, this is Cornell’s first officially recognized a cappella group. Its all female members sing a mix of oldies and contemporary songs.

A Cornell University ensemble specializing in Prohibition-era Jazz, both Hot and Sweet, from the 1910s-1930s.

Cornell Caribbean Student Association Dance Ensemble

CCSA is an organization that represents the views, beliefs, cultures, and politics of the Caribbean students on the Cornell University campus.

Hearsay

Hearsay is an all-female a cappella group formed in 2000 breaking out of the classic a cappella shoo-wop and tackling an eclectic repertoire from Madonna to Queen, Incubus to Stevie Wonder.

Fall Creek Brass Band

A local favorite, formed over 10 years ago, the Fall Creek Brass Band plays a wide variety of dance music from traditional New Orleans tunes to funk, hip-hop, and rock and roll. The last of their set will be a collaboration with Cornell musicians.

IC & TC3 Downtown Day is the first weekend of Downtown Ithaca’s Welcome Student Weekend celebration. Join the party on the Ithaca Commons on Saturday, August 31st from 1-5pm. IC & TC3 Downtown Day is a free, family-friendly event, and everyone is invited: new students, returning students, and the whole Ithaca community.

Talented a cappella groups, song, and dance groups from Ithaca College along with 92 WICB will be performing throughout the afternoon at the Bernie Milton Pavilion.

Complimentary school bus shuttle for students between campus and Downtown Ithaca will be offered. Departing from campus at 12:30pm, 1:30pm, and 2:30pm, with return shuttles at 3pm, 4pm, and 5pm.

TCAT will also provide regularly scheduled bus service on Route 75 from campus into Ithaca (transfer to Route 30 at Ithaca Mall headed to Downtown).
