Gallery Night Ithaca artists observe Hispanic Heritage Month

SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 ITHACA NY — October’s Gallery Night presented by Tompkins Trust Company is happening Friday, Oct. 1, and will feature artwork from more than 30 different artists at 16 downtown Ithaca locations. In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, some of the participating locations will feature Hispanic and Latin American artists.

The Community School of Music and Arts is showcasing El Vacío de la Memoria / The Vacuum of Memory works by Pedro Molina and Marilyn Boror Bors, artists from the Central American isthmus, a region particularly tender from the consequences of geopolitical interests. The exhibit is presented by Cultura Ithaca and the Latino Civic Association of Tompkins County for Latinx Heritage Month. Sacred Root Kava Lounge will feature “Ultraviolet Alchemy” (multi-media blacklight visionary art) created by Myztico Campo, born in Cuba, and Damaris Vazquez. At the same time, Alley Cat Cafe will host Yen Ospina, a Queer Colombian-American self-taught artist, and illustrator. Yen Ospina’s work is influenced by years of exposing herself to antique art, furniture, and literature.

Gallery Night exhibits will also be on display at State of the Art Gallery, Community Arts Partnership (CAP) ArtSpace, Ben Bookout Pop-Up Gallery, the Mink Gallery, Press Cafe, The Tompkins Center for History and Culture, Tompkins County Public Library, Hilton Garden Inn, Whitham Planning Design Landscape Architecture, The Ink Shop Printmaker Center, Beyond Art Interactive Art in Center Ithaca, Your CBD Store, and Kitchen Theatre.

While guests are exploring Gallery Night’s art showings and window displays, we advise them to provide plenty of social distancing among their group and be courteous of other individuals or groups viewing the art. In addition, we recommend that guests, regardless of their vaccination status, wear a mask while visiting the galleries and businesses.
