Alta Spa turns 20 years old this month, hosting Open House on Oct. 10th

ITHACA NY OCTOBER 2, 2019 — Alta Spa, one of Downtown Ithaca’s specialty service providers, is celebrating its 20th anniversary and will be hosting a special event this month to recognize its business milestone.

Alta Spa Owner

Alta Spa is Ithaca’s first day spa and a full-service salon and has been part of the downtown community since 1999. The day spa, owned and operated by Awura-Abena Ansah, a licensed aesthetician, and cosmetologist, offers a full range of skincare and hair removal services including facials, body treatments, toning, eyelash extensions, hair and nail treatments, and massage. Specialized techniques such as “sugaring” (hair removal using a sugar paste) and “microdermabrasion” (using tiny crystals to polish the skin) are also available at the spa. And, in recent years, Ansah added a boutique that features top of line skincare products, jewelry, colorful scarves, stylish hats, and other accessories.

“Opening a business in downtown Ithaca is a dream come true, and to still be in business 20 years later is pure joy. I love performing services that help people improve their appearance and make them feel good about themselves. When I see a smile on a client’s face after I perform a service on them, that makes me extremely happy,” says Ansah, who moved to Ithaca from Canada.

To ensure her clients are receiving the very best service, Ansah is constantly educating herself on the newest skincare techniques. She regularly meets with industry-leading experts while attending skincare conventions in major cities across the country and abroad.

“For me to continue to be relevant, I need to know what the latest trends are in the skincare industry,” said Ansah. “You have to change with the times and add the services that people want.”

“We congratulate Alta Spa and Awura-Abena Ansah on 20 years in business. In a world where change happens constantly, it’s great to celebrate a business that has thrived in the downtown community for two decades,” says Gary Ferguson, executive director for the Downtown Ithaca Alliance.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Alta Spa will host an Open House on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the business, 308 E. State St. Open house guests will be able to enjoy all-day sales, specials on treatments, door prizes, and demonstrations. Plus, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., there will be an anniversary cake and refreshments served at the spa.
