This month is Women’s History Month, a time to highlight the talent and contributions of women. In honor of Women’s History Month, March Gallery Night features three extremely talented local female artists whose recent works are on display at local galleries and businesses, holding space for women’s voices and art.

The artists and galleries include:

• Yen Ospina featured at CAP ArtSpace (virtual exhibit)
• Lindy Joy Cummings at Hilton Garden Inn (In-person show & virtual exhibit)
• Kristina O’Connor at Press Cafe (in-person exhibit)

Local artist Yen Ospina’s Warmth & Hues exhibit will be one of many art displays available during Downtown Ithaca’s March Gallery Night presented by Tompkins Trust Company. Ospina is a Queer Colombian-American self-taught artist, illustrator, and muralist. Her work depicts her own interpretation of folk and art nouveau.

Watkins, Jr. will display their exhibit Six Visions. Through photography, painting, or digital art, each creates a unique vision of the world as they see it. The show will be available until March 28.

Plus, the Community School of Music and Art will showcase an exhibit from award-winning muralist Terrance Vann.
While guests are exploring Gallery Night’s in-person art showings and window displays, they are advised to wear a face mask or facial covering, provide plenty of social distancing among your group, and be courteous of other individuals or groups viewing the art.

For those who cannot attend tonight’s event, you’ll be able to view the virtual and storefront windows exhibits throughout this month. Additional Gallery Night details, including more information about the artists, are available at downtownithaca.com/gallerynightithaca.

ABOUT WOMEN IN HISTORY MONTH: Women’s History Month can be traced to pretty humble beginnings. In 1911, the world celebrated its first International Women’s Day. Not until the 1980s, when President Jimmy Carter issued a presidential proclamation declaring a National Women’s History Week in March, did that celebration stretch into a whole week. In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress designated all of March as Women’s History Month.
