Halloween in Downtown Ithaca set for this Friday

Afternoon event includes a parade, trick or treating at downtown shops
and businesses, and family activities in Center Ithaca

ITHACA, NY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2019 — Calling all costumed characters, ghouls, goblins, witches, superheroes and the like. Head to Downtown Ithaca this Friday to enjoy our Halloween activities.

This family-friendly, Halloween-themed affair, which will include the community’s costume parade and store-to-store Trick-or-Treating, will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. The Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA) is teaming up once again with the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) to proudly present this fun annual tradition.

Parade participants will gather at GIAC, 301 W. Court St., Ithaca, at 3:30 p.m and then march their way to The Commons on E. State Street, Ithaca. As parade goers make their way to The Commons pedestrian mall they will find dozens of stores and businesses participating in all sorts of spooktacular activities (look for a “Trick-or-Treat Here” sign prominently displayed in their storefront window indicating that treats are available). Stores on the Commons,  East State Street off of the Commons, Gateway Commons, Cayuga Street, Green Street including Press Bay Alley and Court, Aurora Street, W. State St., and inside of the Dewitt Mall will be part of this boo-tiful celebration.

Dozens of Downtown Ithaca businesses will be offering candy and other treats to trick or treaters during Halloween in Downtown Ithaca on Friday, Oct. 25.

In addition, this afternoon of innocent and fun frolic will also feature mini games and activities, music, warm apple cider and snacks along with Visions Federal Credit Union offering candy giveaways inside of Center Ithaca. Plus, tasty meat and vegetarian chilis prepared by the GIAC Teen Catering Program will be available from 4 to 6 p.m. in Center Ithaca atrium, 171 The Commons, Ithaca. All of these festivities are free admittance for community members of all ages.

“Halloween in Downtown presents a prime opportunity for families to visit downtown’s many locally owned and operated boutiques, specialty shops, restaurants, and attractions while collecting candy and other treats at participating locations. Participants typically have a wonderful time, and the shopkeepers enjoy seeing all of the trick or treaters costumes,” says Allison Graffin, DIA marketing director.

Halloween in Downtown Ithaca is presented by Maguire Hyundai Subaru and supported in part by Visions Federal Credit Union. A complete schedule of activities is available online at downtownithaca.com.

Halloween in Downtown is the perfect kickoff to a variety of weekend events happening in downtown, including the 5th Annual Ithaca’s Wizarding Weekend, an extremely popular event where downtown Ithaca’s streets will be filled with magic and whimsy from October 26 and 27.

Wizarding Weekend is produced by FanUnity Inc, a non-profit organization, and held at many downtown venues. More information about Wizarding Weekend, including a full schedule of activities, can be found at wizardingweekend.com.
