Meet Chris Broadwell: Owner of Ithaca Guitar Works
Chris Broadwell, a naturally talented and knowledgeable musician who learned to play the cello and guitar as a child, enjoyed a successful music career performing in the Peabody Band (a popular string group from the 1970s), and who even performed in the world-famous Grand Ole Opry, is the longtime proprietor of Ithaca Guitar works, a legendary store known for its massive amount of string instruments, equipment, and accessories.
We’re talking an inventory of high quality, brand name products that fill the entire store, wall to wall, from floor to rafters. It’s a collection of string instruments that is impressive enough to make a professional musician drool.
“We want anyone with an interest in playing music to be able to come in here and find something they may enjoy. Our products range from affordable beginner type stuff to high-end professional equipment,” says Broadwell, noting Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Arthel Lane “Doc” Watson and actor-musician Keanu Reeves made purchases from the shop.
Sales aren’t the only trade happening in this musicians dream store. Broadwell and his staff — his two sons Ash and Ry — specialize in instrument adjustments, custom modifications, restoration, and even teach lessons.
“I love this business. It’s a real pleasure to be surrounded by music daily,” said Broadwell. “And, I love Ithaca, too. It’s a great place to raise a family and it provides a stable environment for work.”
Ithaca Guitar Works is located in the historic Dewitt Mall, 215 N. Cayuga St. For more information about this Ithaca treasure, visit http://www.guitarworks.com.
