Since Verity Woitach was a teenager, she dreamed of becoming a master hairstylist and opening her own salon.
Verity studied cosmetology while attending Ithaca High School to achieve these goals, and she accrued nearly 20 years of experience as a licensed hairstylist. (That’s a lot of hair maintenance!). She’s spent half her career working at her friend Akoko’s salon, Akoko@Ithacacuts, on Cayuga Street.
Then, in 2018, Verity’s entrepreneurial aspiration became a reality when she purchased Akoko’s salon — Akoko moved back to West Africa — and rebranded it as V’s Salon.
“Downtown Ithaca is a great spot for this salon because the area offers a large and diverse clientele — the people that live all over Ithaca and the students, as well. The area sees a lot of foot traffic, and I love seeing and talking with the array of different people who walk by. I also like that people pop into the salon from off the street simply to say ‘hi’ or sit down for a while and chat,” says Verity.
V’s Salon offers a variety of specialty hair care services including braiding (cornrow designs and box braids), coloring, and cuts. Plus, Verity says, her clients always receive stellar customer service.
“The shop is set up to receive customers by appointment only. This allows me and our other stylists to have individual sessions with each client to feel comfortable and special. We take time to listen to what the client wants and do our best to deliver,” says Verity.
You’ll often find Verity busy styling hair, but when she has free time, she enjoys spending it with her family and dabbling with hobbies that involve music and arts.
“Helping provide people with quality hairstyles that will make them look and feel good and spending time with my family is my life. I truly enjoy it, and I appreciate everyone who comes into my salon to receive services,” says Verity.
V’s Salon is located at 118 S. Cayuga St. in downtown Ithaca. To learn more about V’s Salon, visit facebook.com/verityrosehair. To book an appointment, call (607) 275-9413.
